Mrs Sarah Maling

Mrs Sarah Maling

Ms Maling is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in cataract, paediatric and strabismic ophthalmology. She is currently the lead for paediatric and strabismus ophthalmology services at Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust and joint lead of the cataract service.

Sarah has been heavily involved in education for 15 years culminating in the role of Chair of Training for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists for the last 3 years. She is also currently on the education boards of ESCRS ( European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery) and UKISCRS and works as a KOL and independent advisor for several healthcare companies.

Sarah became involved in AI in healthcare while trying to re-design the cataract pathway for BHT Trust. Along with her co-lead Mike Adams they redeveloped a high volume efficient cataract pathway entirely within a traditional NHS setting. A significant part of the pathway change was the use of automated intelligence to deliver events along the pathway.
Sarah loved presenting for RAUK last year and is hopeful to continue to promote understanding of our inherent bias and how this affects us as Drs and patients.
